Peering Through The Long Grass
There are certain times of year that are best for laying down your new lawn. Turf will quickly establish itself on soil that is warm and moist. Autumn happens to be perfect as your new turf will be regularly nourished by winter rain. Spring can also be a great time, but beware that new turf needs lots of water, so if you are in an area that is experiencing water restrictions, its best to wait for a wetter season.

You should look at buying good quality turf that was raised from seed. The type of turf you choose will depend on the weather conditions in your area and the type of soil. Turf is available in several grades, which suit all kinds of landscape: domestic turf contains dwarf perennial ryegrass so it is very hard wearing, great if you know you are going to have a well used lawn, particularly if you have young children or pets. Fine turf, contains grasses such as bents and fescues and is better for a showpiece type project. If you are experiencing drought conditions, a turf that is drought tolerant is your best option. There are many places you can purchase your new turf from, like The Green Centre, and they will be able to give you advice on how to best grow your new lawn. When your turf arrives home, you should stack the rolls in a nice shady area, and if they appear a little dry, sprinkle them with water to keep them hydrated. You should also lay the turf with a day of receiving it, if not keep it watered or you may just waste a whole lot of money!

Make sure you fence off the area if you have kids or pets, your new turf should be used until the roots have properly taken hold. You will have to take care to maintain your turf once it is laid to prevent it from dying off, you want to give it time to grow lush and green.
